Tapahtuman kuvaus

If yo are interested in British literature, this lecture is for you! Come and explore the historical places that inspired Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', Jane Austen's 'Northanger Abbey' and Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights'.

We find out how Bram Stoker's visit to the harbour town of Whitby on the Yorkshire coast in 1890 provided him with atmospheric locations for a Gothic novel – and a name for his famous vampire.

We visit the ruined farmstead of Top Withens on the moors above Haworth in Yorkshire, popularly credited as providing the inspiration for Emily Bronte's setting for the eponymous Earnshaw moorland residence.

We look at possible inspirations for Northanger Abbey.

In this novel, Jane Austen borrowed the stereotypical elements of Gothic literature and used them realistically.
