THE ARTIST Audrey Osler is writer, speaker, and internationally acclaimed scholar, whose books are been translated into many languages, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian and Ukrainian.
She is currently writer-in-residence in Finland, at Hub Feenix.
Her work examines contested histories, marginalised communities, and narrative as a way of exploring difficult questions, and divided, conflict-ridden societies and communities.
She has been writer-in-residence at Cove Park, Scotland; Tŷ Newydd, the National Writing Centre of Literature Wales; and at Church House near Stratford-upon-Avon, as guest of the Hosking Houses Trust.
Audrey holds a PhD in Education from the University of Birmingham and is Professor Emerita at the University of Leeds.
In her book Where are you from? No, where are you really from? Osler answers this fraught question in her own terms.
She explores European colonial history through the stories of her ancestors, back to 18 th century India and London, via Revolutionary France, China, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Audrey uncovers a family history across seven generations, revealing universal tales of migration – journeys prompted by war, study, a global economic crisis, love, child abduction, and even slavery.
